Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering at the University of Ljubljana celebrated its 100th anniversary at a Solemn Academy in the Linhart Hall of the Cankarjev dom Congress Centre. The beginnings of the Faculty’s activities coincide with the time the University of Ljubljana was founded, when on 23 July 1919 Regent Aleksander Karadžordžević I signed the Act on University of Ljubljana. With this Act, five faculties of the University of Ljubljana were established, among them Technical Faculty that included the study of civil engineering and geodesy or surveying.

The audience at the Academy included distinguished guests from Slovenia and abroad – among them Head of Representation of the European Commission in Slovenia Zoran Stančič and winners of jubilee awards at the Faculty’s 100th anniversary. For an introduction, the audience was addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Matjaž Mikoš, as host of the event, and Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Igor Papič. In their speeches the highlighted the role and importance of the Faculty and its activities from the scientific-research and development aspect as well as from the aspect of its influence on the economy and on the development of society in general.
On this occasion, jubilee awards were bestowed to individuals and institutions for their exceptional long-term contribution to the Faculty’s development, its recognition in Slovenia and abroad, and for top-level achievements in research, scientific, development or educational work in the areas of the Faculty’s activities.
The winners of the jubilee gold plaques who contributed exceptionally to the development and recognition of the Faculty and University at the international level are:
- Academic Prof. Dr. Peter Fajfar, retired professor of UL FGG
- Prof. Dr. Miran Saje, retired professor of UL FGG
- Prof. Dr. Rudi Rajar, retired professor of UL FGG
- Prof. Dr. Andrej Pogačnik, retired professor of UL FGG
- Prof. Dr. Erik Stubkjær, University in Ålborg, Denmark
- Technical University in Vienna (Technische Universität Wien)
- Technical University in Munich (Technische Universität München).
At the same time, also silver plaques were bestowed to individuals and organisations for their exceptional contribution to the development and recognition of the Faculty and the profession. The winners of the jubilee silver plaques are:
- Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Science and Art (ZRC SAZU),
- Geodetic Institute of Slovenia,
- Public Research Institute Hidroinštitut,
- Company Cinkarna Celje as well as
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anton Prosen,
- eng. Marjan Jenko and
- Marko Cvikl, MSc.
Engineer Marjan Jenko is the oldest awardee of the jubilee gold plaque.
