The Department of Geodesy at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Ljubljana (UL FGG) keeps a collection of geodetic instruments, which includes more than 100 museum objects. Most of the instruments are on display, and some of the newer ones are deposited at the faculty. The collection was assisted by Mag. Janez Goršič compiled and systematically edited by dr. Dusan Kogoj.

The objects date from the period from the middle of the 19th to the beginning of the 21st century. More than half of the instruments in the collection have been restored, some of the oldest have been completely restored. Extensive and precise work was done by Mr. Rudi Vidic, who specialized in this work during his 30 years of service at Kern.

In 2019, the Technical Museum of Slovenia, with the help of Mag. Martina Orehovec, curator and curator of the Slovenian Geodetic Collection at Bogenšperk Castle, entered the objects in her records – the Kronos database. Thus, the collection of geodetic instruments UL FGG is included in the records of the National Museum, which is the registry for collections from the fields of science and technology in the Republic of Slovenia.

The instruments are exhibited in the corridor of the Department of Geodesy (4th floor) and in the lobby of UL FGG on Jamova cesta 2 in Ljubljana, where they can be viewed freely. We have also prepared a virtual collection on the UL FGG website.
