Assoc Prof Dr Dušan Kogoj of the Department of Geodetic Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Ljubljana (UL FGG) receives the Honorary Valvasor Award 2021 for the design, layout and arrangement of the collection of geodetic instruments at the UL FGG.

The winners of the 2021 Valvasor awards were announced by the Slovensko muzejsko društvo on the International Museum Day, May 18, 2022, on the premises of the National Museum of Slovenia. The award ceremony will take place at the festive event of the Slovensko muzejsko društv, on September 23, 2022 in Tolmin.

Assoc Prof Dr Dušan Kogoj is a designer and author of an extremely extensive collection of surveying instruments at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana. It is important to emphasise that the exhibited instruments have been partially or completely renovated. The exhibition is on display at the faculty; in addition, Assoc Prof Dr Dušan Kogoj, together with the colleagues and students, has prepared a virtual exhibition that can be is viewed on the faculty’s website (https://zbirka.fgg.uni-lj.si/en).

More than 100 surveying instruments included in the collection have been carefully inventoried. They date from the mid-19th to the early 21st century and are related to teaching and research work within the geodesy study programme at the University of Ljubljana. On the website, which is available in Slovenian and English, each instrument is presented with a photo, technical data and a description. The collection is recorded in the Kronos database of the Technical Museum of Slovenia.

Prof. Kogoj’s many years of work in editing, documenting and interpreting the collection is an important contribution to the history of the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering of the University of Ljubljana and to the preservation and public accessibility of the surveying technical heritage in Slovenia.
