On September 22-23, 2022, the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia and the local hosting Celje Surveying Society organised the jubilee 50th Slovenian Surveying Days entitled Digital transformation for Sustainable Spatial Decisions. The two-day event was organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic engineering at the University of Ljubljana, the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia and the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers and the cluster of surveying companies GIZ-GI.

Over 350 participants were firstly addressed by the president of the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia, Gregor Klemenčič, who highlighted, among other things, the role of the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia in knowledge transfer among the various stakeholders of the surveying profession. The importance of geospatial data and spatial information infrastructure for spatial decisions, including spatial planning and space management, was highlighted by Uroš Brežan, minister for the environment and spatial planning. The Director-General of the Slovenian surveying and mapping authority, Tomaž Petek, further presented the surveying days as a forum for exchanging expert opinions on the challenges that, among other things, the legislation brings to the profession. The participants were also addressed by prof. Anka Lisec, Head of the Department of Geodetic Engineering at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana.

The welcome addresses were followed by interesting presentations from the profession, starting with plenary lectures given by eminent guests from abroad, i.e. the president of the International Mapping Association ICA, Tim Trainor, EuroSDR Secretary-General, prof. Joep Crompvoets, and Secretary-General of the European association of surveying and mapping authorities EuroGeographics, Léa Bodossian. In the continuation, young researchers and professionals presented research challenges and applied geospatial solutions, which were followed by lectures that referred to land administration, real estate management and public surveying services. The topics of Friday morning’s lectures addressed the challenges of digital transformation and the opportunities for the profession. The final lecture, given by Joc Triglav, was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the first surveying measurement of Triglav.

The official part of the event was concluded with a round table on human resources challenges in the surveying profession, where the faculty was represented by the Head of the Department of Geodetic Engineering, Prof. Anka Lisec, and a representative of the students of the geodesy and geoinformatics, Žan Pleterski.

On Thursday evening, the festal academy was performed dedicated to the 50th jubilee of Slovenian surveying days, where the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia also awarded solemnly emeritus association members. Tomaž Banovec, who used to teach also at the faculty, received the highest award of the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia for lifetime achievements on the occasion of the 50th Slovenian Surveying Days.
